China Childhood Memories - Feathers

My Dad told the story of a lady missionary in China. Being in war torn China, she was especially interested in verses about God's protection. In her devotions that morning she came across Psalms 91:2 "I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God; in him will I trust" and farther along in that passage in Psalms 91:4 "He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust."

As she was riding out in the countryside in a rickshaw, a band of robbers attacked. The Chinese coolie ran away and she was left to face the robbers alone. All she could think of was the verse she had read that morning. She cried out in Chinese "I'm under His feathers - I'm under His feathers!"

The robbers were startled. She kept repeating "I'm under His feathers - I'm under His feathers!" The robbers thought she was 'mad'. (In China at that time, it was a fearful thing when someone had lost their mind.) In consternation, they stopped, spun around, and ran away as fast as their legs would carry them.

Scripture memory is good for many things. In this instance, the Lord used it to protect His chosen servant on the mission field in far-away China.

Most encouraging post-Psalm 91 is called my protection Psalm. Thanks for sharing the good story and using it to remind me He is faithful to His Word, for what it says is certain and sure.

That's a wonderful story, Ruthie! We are to have the scriptures written on our hearts and what is in our hearts spills out our mouth at times of trouble!! This surely happened here, didin't it? You're a sweetie,
Shelia :)
