Our Day in the Rocky Mountains

We spent a day in the Rocky Mountains, viewing the changing colors of Fall and elk watching.
These are the beautiful Colorado Aspens along the roadside as we drove along.
Near a meadow in Horseshoe Park where the elk herds were gathering and we could hear the elk bugling....an eerily beautiful sound.
We drove up a little dirt road and found this gorgeous bull elk with his herd of cows. He was guarding them very carefully against any other bull elk that may be lurking in the distance.
We had lunch by a small waterfall near Sprague Lake...
and this little bluejay hung around in case we dropped any tasty morsel.
More beautiful aspen up by Sprague Lake ...
We stopped by where we usually camp and my DH threw a few horseshoes ....(note the horseshoe in mid-air!)More Aspen .... More elk ....We ate supper at one of our favorite resturants in Estes Park, the Sundeck - drove through a loop in the park one last time -
and headed home with a lot of pictures and some wonderful memories!
A perfect Fall day in the beautiful Rocky Mountains! I hope your Fall is just as wonderful. And I thank the Lord for providing us with His wonderful creation to enjoy!

I love the fall colors! You did a great job showing Estes Park, CO.

My grandparents were horse shoe players. I would go with them on tournaments in the Denver area when I was little. Great times.

Have a great day.

Hi Ruthie,
What gorgeous scenery! We don't get the change of colors here, nor do we see moose! Thanks for sharing the beauty in your part of the world with us.
Great photos and a lovely post!

This reminds me of a trip we took to the Rocky Mountain National Park and Estes Park when I was just 16 years old. I fell in love with the place. Thank you for the reminder. I didn't see any elk there however nor bluejays. We did have a picnic lunch there. I have pictures of that. Just my Mom, my Dad and me. I am an only child.

What a beautiful day!

Thank you for including the photo of the blue jay--jays look a bit different here in Indiana--they are the same blue all over.
