Chinese New Year was celebrated on January 26th. The Montessori School, where I am the School Nurse, always has a Chinese New Year parade that we attend. This year we invited our neighbors and friends, who are Chinese, to come with us. They were the guests of honor and led the parade around the Court House.
Here are the children getting ready to put the dragon head on at the start of the parade (the date is wrong). Previous to the parade, the children learn how to count to ten in Chinese, make some Chinese characters, and make lanterns and noisemakers that they carry in the parade. There are about two dozen children in the parade. Two of the children have been adopted from China, so this is special for their heritage.
Our daughter, who works nearby, also came by on her lunch hour and marched with us.It's an interesting time for me, having been born in China.
When I was in China, as a little girl, I remember being a little fearful of the New Year, because of the noises of firecrackers as they paraded in the streets of China.
How thankful I am that we do not have to fear, if we put our trust in God. In Psalms 27, it states: "The Lord is my light and my salvation: whom shall I fear or dread? The Lord is the refuge and stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?" (The Amplified Bible)
