China Childhood Memories #11 - The compound wall

In China, we lived in a compound. It was the main house, the gate house, the servants quarters, and maybe some other buildings connected with the housing area. Around the compound was a 10 foot high mud wall with sharp pieces of glass imbedded in the top of the wall to keep out intruders.

My Dad has told this true story of a lady missionary in a compound with forty Chinese girls (who had been abandoned at birth). Their Chinese cook reported that a robber band was coming to rob, pillage, and loot the city. The missionary said "We'll pray and ask God to take care of us". She and the other workers spent the night in prayer. They could hear the commotion outside their compound walls, but the robbers did not enter their dwelling.

As the missionary went out the next morning, she saw the destruction that had taken place around them. She told the people that the robbers didn't come into their compound, that God had protected them. They exclaimed "No wonder, we saw with our own eyes, sitting on the four corners of your wall - were angels!"

The picture above is a Chinese pagoda, and if you look closely, you can see the wall around the compound.

Again, this is a story that shows God's protection and answer to a lady missionary's prayer!

I can imagine how much your own children loved to hear you tell stories about your childhood in China...what a fascinating mother you must have been...

What a wonderful story. These stories are so faith-building. Thank you so much for sharing. The story of the wall reminded me of our trip to India. The children's home there has a fence with glass on top like you described. The compound you described in China sounded so much like the one in India.

I almost forgot since I was so much into your post to tell you that I did another post on my blog with more information about how to add the blog list to the sidebar.
Hugs,
Charlotte

Many of the books that I have read on angels have contained stories about angels' protection in China.

Today's post was a wonderful testimony to our God's faithfulness to those praying missionaries.

Thanks for sharing it. And about how long to make a card--sometimes 1-2 hours when I am figuring out what colors, etc. then the subsequent ones I make of that design go together quite quickly.

Thanks for stopping by. I always appreciate your comments.

Warmly,
Joan

What a beautiful and amazing story! It is so comforting to hear that the bad guys saw angels! Isn't that wonderful! We always pray that the Lord will have His angels standing outside our home protecting us. God is so good!

Fascinating stories about your childhood. What a wonderful life you've had. Thanks for your comment on my humbleness blog. I have had times over the past years during turmoil in the church, that I considered leaving. But you know what? I had a ministry and God never gave me permission to stop it. Trouble always blew over and things were even greater than before.
